Guide
Academic Search Complete is the world's largest scholarly academic multi-disciplinary database, and covers a
broad range of disciplines including general academic, business, social sciences, humanities, general sciences,
education, and multi-cultural topics. Offers full text coverage for more than 3,600 journals and indexing and
abstracts for all 4,500 journals (data as of 2/2003).
This is an upgrade of the library's subscription to Academic
Search Premier.
LexisNexis Academic
Guide
Includes general topic news, as well as company, industry, market,
government and political news. Coverage also includes: country and
state profiles, law reviews, federal case law, medical and health topics,
and accounting, auditing and tax information, company profiles and financials (public and private).
Avery Index to Architectural Periodicals
Indexes over 1,000 international architectural
periodicals in all major languages. Citations include article
summaries in English.
JSTOR
Guide
The JSTOR project seeks to develop online access to the full back
files of selected journals. The database contains a digitized image of every page and is searchable by every word.

GeoBase
Index and abstracts to articles about geography, earth sciences, ecology, planning, geology and remote sensing from journals, books, proceedings, reports and dissertations.
Access is provided through Ei Village. You have the option of searching both GeoBase and Compendex simultaneously.
Newspapers
For the most current information about a topic, or if you are focusing on a topic that is of more local significance than it is of national significance, newspapers should be your first stop. There are many databases and resources to search newspapers, and it is often useful to go to the hometown paper. Remember that the length of time a story might be archived at the paper's Web site varies from paper to paper. Try the following resources:

Social Sciences Citation Index (1973-present). Index to core journal articles and cited references in the social sciences. Includes some abstracts.
Finding Books
Use the Library Catalog to find books related to your topic. The following are just a few of the subject searches that you might find useful. You can also try KEYWORD searching on your main topic AND any other keywords (e.g., zoos and habitats, etc.) related to your topic. A subject search will provide you with an alphabetical listing of topics for this subject.
